Bluff — Cheat, Challenge, whatever your hostel called it — is the card game where the rules barely matter and your face does. The deck is dealt out, you put cards down claiming a rank, and everyone else has to decide whether to believe you. Call it wrong and you eat the whole pile.
Playing it online usually ruins the one thing that makes it work: face-down cards. Here the pile really is face down — the server keeps what you played secret and shows everyone else only how many cards you put down and what you claimed. The cards turn over at exactly one moment: when somebody calls your bluff.
How to play Bluff
- 1Create a room and share the code with 2 to 7 friends. The whole deck is dealt out between you.
- 2The claim goes up in order: Aces, then 2s, 3s, and so on around the table.
- 3On your turn, put down 1 to 4 cards face down and claim they are all that rank. They do not have to be.
- 4Anyone else can tap "Bluff!" — the cards flip over.
- 5If even one card was wrong, the liar picks up the whole pile. If they were honest, the caller picks it up instead.
- 6Nobody calls? The claim stands and nobody ever finds out. First player to get rid of every card wins.
Bluff FAQ
Can other players see what I actually played?+
No. The server keeps your played cards secret and only broadcasts how many you put down and what you claimed. They are revealed to the room only when someone calls your bluff.
Can I claim cards I do not have?+
You can claim any rank you like — that is the game. What you cannot do is play a card you are not holding: the server checks your hand on every play.
How many players do you need?+
Three to eight. It is best around five or six, where the pile grows big enough to make a wrong call really hurt.
Is Bluff the same as Cheat?+
Yes. Bluff, Cheat, Challenge, I Doubt It and Bull are all the same game with different names.
What if I win with my last card and someone calls it?+
You are only out once the challenge window closes. If your last card was a lie and someone catches it, the whole pile comes back to you and you are very much still playing.
