Paranoia works on one idea. One player gets a question about the people in the room — who here would survive longest without their phone, who here gives the best advice at 2am — and answers it out loud by saying somebody's name.

Everyone hears the name. Nobody hears the question. Then a coin is flipped: heads and the question is read out, tails and it is gone for good.

The person who got named spends the rest of the evening wondering what it was for, and that is the entire game. It is also where the name comes from.

This is one of the rare party games that is genuinely better on phones than around a table. In the physical version the question has to be whispered, so the two people either side hear it anyway and the coin flip is already decorative. Here it goes to one screen and nobody else can see it.

Paranoia FAQ

How is this different from Most Likely To?+

They look similar and are opposite games. In Most Likely To the whole room votes and the tally is the payoff. In Paranoia one person answers and the *withholding* is the payoff — the fun is in not knowing.

Can anyone else see my question?+

No. It is sent to your device alone and is never in the shared game state until the coin reveals it. That is the one thing this version does better than playing it around a table.

Do you have to drink to play?+

No. Paranoia is often played as a drinking game but nothing here requires it — there is no penalty mechanic at all.

What happens if I do not answer in time?+

Nothing is revealed and nobody is named. A question nobody answered is not worth exposing somebody over.

Can I name myself?+

Yes, and it is sometimes the honest answer.
